Prodapt transformed Virgin Media Ireland (VM Ireland), a top digital cable TV provider, by leveraging AWS Cloud and Terraform to expand operations and enhance customer service with a robust, accelerated, and scalable cloud infrastructure.

Background

The leading digital cable television providers continue to face challenges in managing on-premise infrastructure, impacting ability to deliver top-tier services to subscribers. Maintaining such infrastructure entails significant capital investment and ongoing operational expenses, leading to scalability limitations that hinder adaptation to fluctuating demand for digital content. As consumer preferences evolve and demand for streaming services rise, providers face hurdles in swiftly scaling infrastructure to meet peak demand.

Furthermore, managing infrastructure on-premises stalls innovation and slows down deployment of new services. These constraints make it difficult for providers to embrace emerging technologies in the dynamic digital entertainment landscape.

Client Situation

Our client Virgin Media Ireland (VM Ireland), a prominent provider of cable and broadcast services in Ireland, wanted to modernize infrastructure to meet the growing demands of the digital age. To navigate this complex transition, they sought to gain an expert’s view into their current infrastructure, establish migration goals, prioritize security & compliance measures, and seamlessly integrating cloud services into their operations.

As they geared up for expansion, particularly venturing into the wholesale telecoms market, the need for a significant overhaul of their business model and technological infrastructure became essentially evident. The company sought a partnership with Prodapt to meet their growth objectives and deliver enhanced customer experiences across their regions of operation.

Prodapt's partnership modernized the digital cable provider's technology infrastructure, enabling scalability and better customer experiences in a rapidly evolving digital realm.

Diagnosis

VMIE faced a pressing need to modernize their existing business model and technological infrastructure. This included accommodating increased workloads and demands resulting from their expansion initiatives. The transition required a significant scale-up of their infrastructure, which predominantly resided on their premises.

With the surge in bandwidth-heavy services and the additional strain expected from entering the wholesale telecoms market, their existing setup was becoming inadequate.

We conducted collaborative workshops with Virgin Media Ireland's Infrastructure, Cloud Center of Excellence, and Project Delivery teams to comprehensively grasp their transformation objectives, existing infrastructure, and desired outcomes.

Solving It

In response to the client’s challenges in modernizing its infrastructure and preparing for expansion into the wholesale telecoms market, Prodapt devised a solution leveraging Terraform-based Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and AWS.

We harnessed Terraform to architect a tailored solution for provisioning and configuring cloud resources on AWS ensuring precise deployment and configuration of key components such as Transit Gateway, Security Group, Amazon EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, and IAM. This approach guarantees optimal performance and scalability to meet client's evolving needs.

The Terraform solution was integrated into a CI/CD pipeline, enabling automated cloud resource provisioning. Collaboration with DevOps teams enhanced efficiency and agility, incorporating feedback loops for continuous improvement. Rigorous testing, validation, and integration with the CI/CD pipeline ensured reliability and scalability. This comprehensive approach facilitated seamless deployment and efficient resource management.

Additionally, integration with a Cloud Management Platform optimized operations and offered better visibility & control over the AWS cloud tenant. This integration facilitated seamless management and orchestration of cloud resources, empowering them to optimize resources and accelerate their digital transformation.
